You most stand for
Multiculturalism
Our founding leaders like Lee Kuan Yew and S Rajaratnam believed strongly in the equality of all races and religions, and multiculturalism has been foundational to Singapore ever since we attained self-government in 1959. Did you know? S Rajaratnam authored our national pledge and a draft read: “We, as citizens of Singapore, pledge ourselves to forget differences of race, language and religion and become one united people…” When we say the pledge today, we renew our commitment to stand as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion. Thank you for being a champion of multiculturalism in Singapore – appreciating the distinct cultural characteristics of your community, while embracing a shared Singaporean identity and purpose. One of five stars on our national flag stands for equality, but you get five stars for standing for multiculturalism!
